Hi Aimless . . .

I always say if you can't do an elevator pitch--pitch your book in 50 words or less in the time it takes an elevator containing you and the agent or editor of your dreams from the 14th floor to the lobby--then you can't expect an agent to be able to pitch it over lunch or a phone call . . . and then if the stars align, expect an editor to be able to pitch it to his or her boss and then the marketing team and so on. It's really hard--but it's about sales and the "art" of a sale in the book biz.

Great post!
